Biography of Miguel Yepes
Miguel Yepes is a restaurant entrepreneur who like many of his generation learnt on the job.
Although he was born in Hellín, Albacete, from the age of four he has lived in Catalonia. As a boy living in post-war battered Spain, his formal education was short-lived. At the age of twelve the typical mountains of potatoes to peel and miles of running between the kitchen and clients' tables opened doors for him which his vocation ensured remained open.
After his first experiences in Mora la Nueva and Hospitalet del Infante, at the age of fifteen he discovered the secrets of French cuisine in the Montmatre of Miami Beach. Later he occupied the post of restaurant manager in the international company Wagonlits Cook on the Barcelona - Geneva route. Before owning his own restaurants he managed the restaurant at Barcelona's Royal Yacht Club and afterwards the prestigious Donchon restaurant as well as the rooms in the Diplomátic Hotel.
He owned the historical Julepe de Castelldefels, where the campers used to queue for two hours to savour the exquisite flame-grilled meat with herbs. Some time later he opened El Comodín, El Pepperone and the elegant Sant Pauli Bistro in Muntaner street, renowned for its original menu, a tiny, intimate and well kept establishment, where each client used to open the premises with their own key.
Then came La Canasta, a later love, one which requires his total commitment and the experience and boundless creativity of the whole family: His wife, María Rosa and his children, Esther, Mireia and Christian.
